Degree vs diploma decides your PGWP
Degree grads are exempt from the PGWP field-of-study rule; a college diploma's CIP code must be on IRCC's list. Choose carefully.

Pick the program first, then find institutions. It must be at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) — only a DLI can host international students, and you verify its status on the IRCC DLI list. The biggest decision for Indian students is degree vs college diploma:

  • ✓Degree route — simplest for PGWP and PALBachelor/master/doctoral grads are exempt from the PGWP field-of-study rule, and master's/PhD at a public DLI are PAL-exempt from 1 Jan 2026
  • ✓College diploma / PG-certificate — check the CIP list firstCheaper, but for a PGWP the program's CIP code must be on IRCC's eligible field-of-study list — check it BEFORE you enrol
  • ✓Match the program to your background and career goal
