Check What Your Agent Is Doing

Detailed independent guidance for Indian students and families.

A fair, practical checklist to verify agent advice, application access, receipts and promises before committing money.

An agent can help. You should still know what they submit.

A useful counsellor can organise information and deadlines. The risk begins when a student cannot see the selected programme, statement submitted, amount paid or refund agreement. Treat this as a documentation-and-control problem, not a claim that every agent is dishonest.

Check before you authorise an application

  • Programme fit: Ask for the official course link, entry conditions, accreditation where relevant and why it matches your profile.
  • Route: Confirm who actually files the application—student, institution, nominated agent or national portal—and who has final decision authority.
  • Login ownership: Know which email and phone number are attached to each account and whether you can independently view the application. Never hand out OTPs casually.
  • Submitted information: Review the final documents and declarations before anyone clicks Submit. Correct any invented employment, funding source, travel history or language score.
  • Fees and commissions: Ask which charges go to the university/government, which go to the agent, and whether the agent receives a referral payment. Get the answer in writing.
  • Receipts and refunds: Get official invoices and written conditions for refusal, withdrawal, missed deadlines and currency differences.

Five questions to ask an agent

  • Which institution or government portal is receiving my form?
  • Can I see the final version before submission?
  • Who holds the account login and will I retain access?
  • Which fees are refundable, by whom, and by what deadline?
  • What happens if I choose a non-partner university or apply myself?

A realistic warning sign

An agent says a certain university is the 'only possible choice' but will not show official entry criteria, other suitable options or any explanation of selection. Ask for evidence rather than accepting the claim—or assuming bad faith without evidence.

Keep a payment and decision trail

Store the official offer, fee schedule, account screenshots, a copy of the final submitted file, every bank transfer receipt and the service agreement. Do not confuse an agent's payment acknowledgement with a university's receipt.

Before you act

This is independent educational guidance, not a visa decision or promise of admission. Confirm requirements for your country, institution, study level and application date through the linked official authorities. Do not submit personal financial records into an open public page.
